Durability Improvement of Cement Using Amphiphilic Calcium Carbonate Nanoparticles

The durability of cementitious materials is significant concerning long-term performance. Nanomaterials are promising candidates for deep refinement cement durability. Hydrophobic calcium carbonate a widely applied and easily accessible nanomaterial. However, its hydrophobicity poor dispersity in water prohibit direct application materials. In this study, hydrophobic nanoparticles (HbCC) were modified using novel amphiphilic comb-shaped dispersant that capable laurinol release. modification was conducted to improve the HbCC their compatibility with hydration products. dispersion-improved particles (AmphCC) characterized tested improvement According results, AmphCC showed pronounced effect on improving permeation resistance mortars, absorption chloride penetration considerably lowered. Moreover, introduction did not show adverse effects strength development. Compared AmphCC, single addition unmodified cannot achieve equivalent effects. superior due synergistic good particle dispersion controlled release molecules, which achieved by binding dispersant.
